Allan Kardec – The Codifier of Spiritism. Allan Kardec codifed the Doctrine of Spiritism from communication with high spirits under the direction of the Spirit of Truth, as promised by Jesus Christ in the New Testament. The organization, processes, and levels of Heaven, and the reason why we are on Earth are all brought to us in the revelations by messengers of Christ. This is a brief introduction to Allan Kardec and the books he assembled from communications from high spirits. Click here to watch my YouTube video.
Allan Kardec in the book, The Gospel According to Spiritism, lays out the philosophy of Socrates as recorded by Plato. The basic doctrine of Socrates is very similar to what Jesus preached and Spiritism codified. Which should not be surprising, since all had their headwaters in the same place; the spirit world. In Allan Kardec’s book, The Gospel According to Spiritism, there is a message from the Spirit of Truth, Chapter VI, The Consoling Christ, Section 5, The Coming of the Spirit of Truth.
The Spirit of Truth is the promised consoler mentioned in the New Testament;
“If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray to my Father and he will send you another consoler so that he may remain with you forever: The Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him. But as for you, you will know him because he will remain with you and will be among you. But the consoler, who is the Holy Spirit, whom my Father will send in my name,, will teach you all things and will enable you to remember everything that I have said to you” (John. 14:15-17,26)
The Spirit of Truth wrote the following message to us; via a medium in Paris in 1860;
“I have come, as I once came amongst the wayward children of Israel, to bring the truth and dissipate the darkness. Listen to me. Spiritism, as my word of old, must remind disbelievers that above them reign the immutable truth; the good God, the great God who makes the plant germinate and raises the tides. I have revealed the divine Doctrine, and like a reaper, I have gathered into sheaves the good scattered amid humankind and have said, ‘Come unto me, all you who suffer!’
However, ungrateful men and women have strayed from the straight and broad way that leads to the kingdom of my Father, and have become lost on the bitter path of impiety. My Father does not want to annihilate the human race; he wants you, through the help you give to one another – both the living and the dead, that is, dead according to the flesh, since death does not exist – to succor one another, and for the voice of the prophets and apostles no longer to be heard, but instead, the voice of those who have departed from the earth, proclaiming to you, ‘Pray and believe! For death is resurrection and life is the chosen trial during which your cultivated virtues must grow and develop like cedar.’
O frail humans, who are aware of the darkness of your minds, do not stray from the beacon that divine clemency has placed in your hands to light your way and lead you, as lost children, back to the bosom of your Father.
I am too moved with compassion for your miseries, your great frailty, not to extend a sure hand to those wayward unfortunates who, seeing heaven, fall into the abysses of error. Believe, love and meditate upon the things that are being revealed to you. Do not mix tares with the good seed, utopias with the truth.
O Spiritists! Love one another; this is the first teaching. Educate yourselves; this is the second. All truths are found in Christianity. The errors that have become rooted within it are of human origin; and here, beyond the grave – which you believed was nothingness – voices cry out to you: ‘Brothers and sisters! Nothing perishes. Jesus Christ is the victor over evil; be victors over impiety.” [The Gospel According to Spiritism, Allan Kardec, pp 129-131]
When the Spirit of Truth, tells us not to mix tares (weeds) with the good seed and utopias with the truth; we are being told to be true to the Spiritist Doctrine, do not adulterate it to make the Doctrine easier and more comfortable for people to understand and accept. Yes, you may interpret it in order to explain it, but don’t promise any easy exit for those seeking heaven. Only through living Spiritism, can we hope to achieve any progress in our quest to become better souls.
Learn how to take the life given to us and use it to perfect yourself – to ascend to heaven – to become a better, more loving, fraternal, and honest person. Read my book How to Live – Inner Peace Through Spiritism. Once you understand your mission on earth and the fact of your immortality you will feel less stressed and able to cope with the trials assigned to you.
Allan Kardec was the codifier and the Spirit of Truth supplied the initiative for the third revelation, but do you wish to know how exactly Allan Kardec worked with the Spirit world and published his books? The process he used is explained in this article. Read More.

This information was brought to you by a reader of this blog, Jose, from Brazil.
There is fascinating material; Jose provided one such example of a conversation between Allan Kardec and Emmanuel Swedenborg (who preceded Allan Kardec by about 100 years).
Text from Jose:
Below, 2 communications from the spirit of Swedenborg in the Spiritist magazine (written by Kardec) of 1859.
Swedenborg´s communication 1
Evocation of Swedenborg. He responded to the evocation of Mr.
Allan Kardec as:
– Speak my old friend.
– You honor me with the title of your old friend. However, we are
far from being contemporary since I only know you from your
– It is true but I do know you since long ago.
– We wish to make several questions about many points of your doctrine,
but it is late now and our only objective is to ask you if we can frame
these questions in our next session.
– With pleasure. Allow me already to make a correction in my writing
that is important to me. When I wrote my doctrine I affirmed, under
the inspiration of the heavenly counselors who dictated it to me, that
each people were in a separated sphere in heavens, and that the distinct
character of each nation was preserved, not by individuals but in large families. Experience has convinced me that that is not the case.
– Aren’t other points subject to dispute?
– Yes, many others, but this is one of the most important.
– We have here several mediums. Do you have preference to communicate with us?
– No… or better, yes. I would choose a mechanical medium, as you
call them, and fast as well. “

As promised in the session of the Society, on September 16
Society, September 23rd, 1859
Dear good friends and faithful believers. I wished to come here to encourage
You in the path that you walk with such a great endeavor with respect to the Spiritist subject. Your zeal is appreciated in the spiritual world.
Move on but be aware that the obstacles will still block you for some time. Thus, as with me, you will not lack detractors. I preached Spiritism a century
ago and found enemies of all kinds. I also had keen followers that supported
My Spiritist moral and doctrine are not exempt of great mistakes,
which I do acknowledge now. Thus, the penalties are not eternal, I see
well. God is very just and good to eternally punish the creature that has
not had sufficient strength to resist to the passions. Also, what I said
about the world of the angels, preached in the temples, was not but an
illusion of my senses. In good faith I thought I had seen it, as I said, but
I was wrong. You are in the best path for you are better enlightened than
we were in my time.
Carry on, but be prudent, so that your enemies do not find strong
weapons against you. Watch over the space you gain daily! Thus, courage!
Your future is guaranteed. Your strength is your speech in the name of reason.
Do you have questions to me? I will respond now.
1. You had the first revelation in London, 1745. Did you wish for that?
Were you already involved with the theological questions?
I was already involved with that but in no way I wished for that revelation.
It came spontaneously to me.
2. Who was the spirit that appeared to you saying that he was God
Himself? Was it really God?
No. I believed in what he said because I saw a super human being and
I was flattered.
3. Why has he taken God’s name?
To be better obeyed.
4. Can God directly manifest to men?
He certainly could but no longer does that.
5. There was a time when He did manifest then?
Yes, in the first ages of Earth.
6. That spirit who made you write things that you now recognize
wrong, did he do it in ill-faith?
He did not do it in ill-faith. He was mistaken himself, for he was not
elevated enough. Today I see that the illusions of my own spirit and intelligence influenced him, despite anything. However, among some system
errors, it is easy to acknowledge great truths.
7. Your doctrine is founded on the correspondences. Do you still believe
in those relationships that you found among things of the material world
with each thing of the moral world?
No. It is a fiction.
8. What do you understand by these words: God is man himself?
God is not man: man is an image of God.
9. Please elaborate.
I say that man is an image of God because the intelligence, the genie
that he eventually receives is an emanation of the Divine Omnipotence.
He represents God on Earth by that power he exerts onto nature and by
the great virtues he has the capability of acquiring.
10. Should we consider man a part of God?
No. Man is not part of Divinity. It is only his image.
11. Could you tell us how the communications from the spirits were
received by you? Did you write what was revealed to you like the mediums
or by inspiration?
When I was in silence, worshiping, my spirit was in a kind of ecstasy,
and I clearly saw an image before me, speaking with me, dictating what I
had to write. Sometimes, my imagination mixed with all that.
12. What should we think about the fact mentioned by Knight Beylon,
with respect to the revelation you made to Queen Luisa Ulrika?
The revelation was true. Beylon denatured that.
13. What is your opinion about the Spiritist Doctrine, as is today?
I told you that you are in a safer path than I was since your lights are
generally broader. I had to fight a much greater ignorance and, in particular,
Allan Kardec, in his The Mediums Book, surveys different types of mediums. Not all of us, in fact a tiny percentage of us, has the ability to communicate with the spirit world. But, he does say that we are all inspirational mediums. Meaning, that unbeknownst to us, spirits send their thoughts to us and we believe they are our own creations, or inspirations.
A good example of an inspirational medium is Allan Kardec, himself. He never professed that he had any mediumistic ability other than being inspired. Spiritist literature tells us that we are unconscious receivers of thoughts, some more powerful than others. Spirits who desire to influence our actions,
speak directly to us, giving us ideas. Higher level spirits send us edifying messages to help us onto the path of performing a service to society, such as charitable acts or help us create new inventions to benefit the human race. We are also sent moral guidance to reinforce what our conscience tells us.
On the other side of the coin, we continually swim in a sea of neutral or ill-intentioned spirits, who spur us on to counter-productive acts. This is why we need to learn to listen to our conscience, so we can filter out harmful suggestions.
There is an article in the book, The Spiritist Review, Journal of Psychological Studies of 1859, which contains the entire contents of that year’s magazines, edited and partially written by Allan Kardec. The article is about an errant spirit who is on the cusp of determining he wishes to pursue a better path. A medium talks to him about Allan Kardec and Spiritism.
The spirit decides to visit Allan Kardec to see for himself what type of person he is. In the second session the spirit reports back what he saw.
The medium wrote out the transcripts and sent them to Allan Kardec, which he read and confirmed as accurate. I start at Question 47:
47. Let us return to Mr. Allan Kardec.
- I went to his house yesterday. He was busy, writing in his office… He was working on a new book… Ah! He takes good care of us, poor spirits. If we are not known it is not his fault.
48. Was he alone?
- Yes alone – that is, there was no other person with him. However, there were about twenty spirits around him, whispering above his head.
49. Has he heard them?
- He heard them so well that he looked around to try to establish the origin of the noises, trying to see if they were not coming from thousands of flies. Then he opened the window to see if that was not coming from the wind or rain.
- NOTE – Allan Kardec wrote – The fact is absolutely correct
50. Do you recognize any of those spirits?
- No. They are not those in which company I pleased myself. I had the impression that I was an intruder. I remained in a corner of the room, observing.
51. Have the spirits given the impression that they were observing what he was writing?
- I believe so. Two or three in particular whispered what he was writing, giving the impression that they heard the opinion of the others. However, he strongly believed that the ideas were his and seemed happy with that.
I particularly love the last sentence, since we have all been at the place where we are pleased with ourselves after we had thought of something quite brilliant. I wonder how many times that was our own thinking versus thoughts whispered into our heads.
At first, it is a bit discomforting to contemplate that many of our brighter ideas are not our own. But, on second thought, we should feel gratified that our mentors are involved in our lives trying to gently move us in the right direction.
I explore the world we live in and the fact that we are continuously surrounded by guides and notified by signals from the spirit world in our daily lives. Read the, 7 Tenets of Spiritism – How They Impact Your Daily Life, to discover the true extent of support we receive while we are on earth. A place where we have been sent to learn and to rectify our past mistakes.
Beginning in the remotest ages with primitive tribes there has been a recurring theme of our destiny being guided by supreme powers. The Old and New Testaments actually tell of events being managed by God. Allan Kardec published the Spirits Book which for the first time started to reveal the extent the Hand of God plays into our past, present, and future activities. The books psychographed by Francisco C. Xavier expose some of the exact processes by which we are directed.
This presentation collects together and describes the tools by which the Spirit world pushes and pulls the levers and sets the dials to manipulate the human race to achieve their desired results.
