There must be many ways for a person to be obsessed, in the book, Action and Reaction, by Francisco C. Xavier, dictated by the spirit Andre Luiz, there is an example of one method used to cause an innocent person to become obsessed. Read More.
Envy, which has it roots in selfishness, whereby a person has something your desire and you wish to have it for yourself is a character trait that we are on earth to learn to remove. Only when there are more souls on earth who live by the Golden Rule, who don’t fall to the baser emotions of hate, envy and revenge will the earth commence its great climb from a planet of atonement to a planet of regeneration.
Envy has been with us since humans gathered in tribes. A story from the times of Athens, after the Greeks defeated the Persians at the battle of Marathon illustrates the harm that envy can bring. One of the generals who led the Athenians to victory was called Aristides the Just.
In Athens, a person could be banished if six thousand citizens voted to remove him from the city. Aristides’ main opponent, Themistocles arranged to have a vote to banish Aristides. Aristides, who had always acted nobly and fair to all, walk amongst the crowd. A farmer stopped him, without knowing who he was. The farmer didn’t know how to read or write so he asked Aristides to write his vote down for him.
“What name shall I write?” questioned Aristides.
“Oh, put down ‘Aristides,'” answered the farmer.
“Why do you want him sent away? Has he ever done you any harm?” asked Aristides.
“No,” said the farmer, “but I’m tired of hearing him called the just.”
Without saying another word, Aristides calmly wrote his own name on the shell. When the votes were counted, they found six thousand votes against him: so Aristides the Just was forced to leave his native city and go away into exile.
Nothing has changed in the 2,500 years since the time of Ancient Greece, people are still moved by politicians by motives of greed and envy, instead of what is just and good. The transfer of energy from one being to another is the essence of a pass, as it is known in Spiritism. Passes revitalize our Vital Fluids so we may be stronger to face our daily trials. For if we don’t place ourselves in a balanced state, we have less control over our emotions and our body is less able to heal itself. Read More.
After you ascend up to one of the celestial cities, like Nosso Lar, it’s not good enough to control what you say, such as refraining from sarcasm or juicy gossip, you have to learn to manage your thoughts. After all, one of the central tenets of Spiritism is you are what you think, actions don’t come from the physical or verbal act, but originate with your mental activity.
Andre Luiz demonstrates this precept in the book, The Messengers, where after he and his colleague Vincent attended a lecture and decided to talk to the other attendees. Vincent told Andre that their instructor considered any enriching conversation to constitute useful work. Andre replied;
Vincent smiled, “It would be your loss. Bear in mind that here words and thoughts become characteristic features of your individuality, and if you engage in degrading conversations and thoughts, our instructors know immediately. Your presence would become unpleasant, and your face would be surrounded by a dark haze.”
This was a startling revelation for me. Here in Nosso Lar, we literally became our thoughts. We cannot deceive those who are more spiritually advanced. [The Messengers, 2006, p. 38]
This is just the first step, for as you ascend higher in the spirit realm, you will be trained to use your mind to create what you have willed. In other words, you shall have the ability to materialize objects out of the ether around you. I explain further in my article, Training of the Will, where you shall discover your ultimate power is beyond almost any fantasy novel you have read.
We travel through multiple lives for a reason, and that is to perfect ourselves in many circumstances and conditions. It’s not enough to be relaxed and in control most of the time, it must be a constant, otherwise we shall not be allowed to manipulate such power. If you wish to learn more about how reincarnation is a process to remove all of our faults, please read my book, The Case for Reincarnation – Your Path to Perfect.
Whoever said Spiritism is easy? Controlling our thoughts is a challenge. It took me many years just to learn to keep my mouth shut! This is why we must focus on learning and helping others, it helps to cut out the background noise of our baser notions.
In the book, In the Domain of Mediumship, inspired by Andre Luiz and psychographed by Francisco C. Xavier, also known as Chico, there is a scene where a woman, Anesia, has asked for help from the Spiritual world. She is worried that her husband has found another woman. During her sleep, when she is out of her body, a team of spirits, led by Aulus, accompanies Anesia to where Jovino has met his girlfriend. Anesia sees the entire scene of Jovino drinking and showing displays of affection with the other woman. Read More.
In the book Liberation, by Chico Xavier, our beloved spirit author Andre Luiz, was impressed by the work of a medium, Dona Isaura Silva. When she was working, she displayed beautiful radiations. After she finished the sessions, she was surrounded by a dark gray substance. Read More.
Let your conversation always be gracious, seasoned with salt so that you may know how to answer everyone. – Paul (Col. 4:6)
The act of responding beneficially to heterogeneous minds require superior qualities that the individual should make an effort to acquire.
Points of view cannot be directed indiscriminately at fellow humans as they struggle with one another in evolutionary and redemptive tasks. It is necessary to address each one judiciously. One should not respond to someone working in the countryside by mentioning circumstances in the city. One should not use highly scientific remarks with someone complaining about the harshness of his or her individual path.
First of all, one must not be disagreeable to the listener; one should moderate the verbal attitude with a true grasp of life’s problems. It is our duty to make our contribution so that those who have strayed away from simplicity and usefulness may realign themselves.
Every response in an important matter is like medicine: one must apply the dose with its effects in mind. Each individual will tolerate and benefit from the proper dosage. Even the solutions of truth and love must not be administered without this criterion. Applied in inappropriate doses, even the truth could destroy, just as love can cause damage…
Even if questioned by the greatest evildoer in the world, you should maintain a pleasant and dignified manner to inform or to enlighten. Knowing how to respond is a virtue from the sphere of celestial wisdom. For your own sake, do not forget the best way of caring for each individual. [pp. 167-168]
I agree completely with what I have read above, but I fully realize that I will have difficulty in adhering to it. I shall try my best and will castigate myself when I fail, hopefully over time I may improve and capture a bit of the wisdom from the celestial sphere.
The spirit world sends us people to test us in these types of situations. This is why we are constantly paired with adversaries, people to try our patience and to help us improve. We should actually thank God for the training we receive. I cover this topic more in my book The Problem is the Solution: 7 Life Complications Sent to Test and Teach You.
Emmanuel, Francisco (Chico) C. Xavier’s spirit mentor wrote a list of what it takes to win in our short life here on earth. The list in on page 63 in the book, Spiritual Wisdom: Missive of Hope, published in English in 2015.
You Will Win
Do not be discouraged.
Persist a little longer.
Do not cultivate pessimism.
Focus on the good to be accomplished.
Forget the suggestions from destructive fear.
March forward, even across the shadow of your own mistakes.
Advance even if amidst tears.
Do not allow the frost of disenchantment to numb your heart.
Do not be susceptible to difficulties.
Convince yourself that victory is a daily achievement.
Do not give up patience.
Do not believe in accomplishments without efforts.
Apply silence to insults.
Oblivion to evils.
Forgiveness to offenses.
Recall that aggressors are infirm individuals.
Do not allow unbalanced companions to destroy your work or snuff your hope.
Do not belittle the duties your conscience demands of you.
If you have made a mistake somewhere along the way, readjust your perspectives and seek the right way.
Count neither successes nor failures.
Study with the intention of learning.
Do not turn yourself against anyone.
Do not dramatize trials or difficulties.
Maintain the habit of praying so there might be light in your inner life.
Safeguard yourself in God and persevere in the work He has entrusted upon you.
Love always, doing for others the very best within your possibilities.
Act with assistance.
Attend without attachment.
And in this manner you shall win.
If we posses unwavering faith all of the above is possible. I know this is extremely hard to accomplish. I am not there yet, but as Emmanuel said, make readjustments as you go. Don’t dwell on past errors but look ahead to future accomplishments.
Remember you are not alone. The spirit world is always around us, watching and attempting to help us, even when we don’t realize it. Learn to identify the signals that are sent from beyond. My book, 7 Tenets of Spiritism – How They Impact Your Daily Life, with help you decipher the hints and events that push and pull us forward to fulfill our destiny.
I was talking to a group of people about the difficulty of controlling our thoughts and the need to remain calm and understanding in all circumstances. The discussion was proceeding along the lines of ways to step outside yourself and analyze the situation first when one of the group said, “But there is this one person who deliberately does things to make me mad.”
Everyone instantly had the same look of recognition; we have all been there and darn it, if that individual would stop doing that, all would be right. It is, as if that person was performing an illegal act and deserved to be arrested, and, by the way, we all know force is needed when apprehending a criminal. So, reacting angrily is really the right thing to do. And besides if you don’t they won’t stop doing it.
Except it’s not. A voice inside my head said, “That’s your problem, not theirs. The spirit world is watching you, not them. This is a test and guess what; you just failed it.” But, that response would have been too harsh and would not serve to expose exactly why our reaction is more important than the deed which causes it.
When we are young we solve problems by just taking what we want or making a big noise in protest. The same goes for young spirits. Physical action or a verbal assault is the first remedy for any given situation. As we mature, we learn how to manage more situations in a civilized manner. The only problem is we haven’t learned how to handle all situations without evoking a strong negative emotional response. Myself included!
What we are actually seeing in those occasions where we react to the red flag is the part of the test where the professors expect most to fail. Questions are posed to separate the truly gifted from the adequate. Questions which have not been reviewed during the lecture, but if the student was diligently studying on her or his own, they could be mastered.
Therefore, welcome the chance for that annoying inquiry or comment that sends you to the darkest regions of your emotions. As soon as your blood rises, tell yourself, oh shit! This is a test and I can pass it! Challenge yourself to find ways to either brush it off and accept the behavior or work with the person to come to an understanding. Then push further and think of that person with love and kindness, knowing that we are all in a learning mode here on the campus called Earth.
Learn about the trials we must suffer through and how all of this is meant for our own good, by reading my book, 7 Tenets of Spiritism – How They Impact Your Daily Life. We are surrounded by guardian angels and spirits who wish us well on our journey. Read how we are sent signs to put us on the right path.
In the book, Action and Reaction, by Francisco (Chico) C. Xavier, inspired by the spirit Andre Luiz there is a discussion about the power of thought. Andre was at a shelter, built and sponsored by Andre’s celestial city, Nosso Lar. The shelter, “Mansao Paz”, which means Mansion of Peace in English, is in the Lower Zone, so it can be close to the souls who wish to leave and ascend.
Inside the shelter there are poor souls who are disfigured. They are disfigured because their minds control their outward appearance. The person Andre talks to bring up the subject of radio and TV signals. Andre ask how is this pertinent, the learned spirit tells him about thoughts and the power of our mind:
“I’m referring to the subject to remind you that in radio and TV broadcasting, the electrons that carry voice modulations and the elements that form the images travel through space at the speed of light, that is, 186,000 miles per second. That means that in just one location a broadcasting and a receiving station can both operate at the same time; hence, in one second, images and words can be sent and received simultaneously after having crossed immense distances in space in an infinitesimal fraction of time. Now let’s picture our thought as a living and active force, whose speed is even faster that light. Emitted by us, it unavoidably returns to us, compelling us to live of our own accord in its wave of created forms, which naturally fix themselves in our mind when fed by the fuel of our desires or attention.” [Action and Reaction, 2010, p. 52]
First note that our thoughts move faster than the speed of light. In the spirit plane, the speed of light isn’t the universal speed limit. Second, we receive thoughts and process them. While in an incarnate state we do so subconsciously. We live in a world where we are being affected by forces that we do not detect.
The wise spirit continues on:
“Hence, the vital need for us always to keep ourselves in the noblest ideals and purest purposes of life, due to the fact that energies attract other energies of the same kind. Thus, when we dwell on vice or darkness, the mental forces that we exteriorize then return to our mind, forces which are reanimated and intensified by the elements in tune with them. Consequently, we reinforce the bars of the prison in which we thoughtlessly remain, making our soul a closed world, where the voices and images of our own thoughts combine with the suggestions of those who are in tune with our behavior, thereby imposing recurrent hallucinations on us and temporarily neutralizing our senses.” [Action and Reaction, 2010, p. 53]
Our negative thoughts attract other negative thoughts, creating an ever stronger feedback loop. This is why the advice to get yourself out of a depression is to think positive or become preoccupied with something else is actually an excellent suggestion. We need to break the cycle and cease reinforcing reasons for our failure.
Instead, we should strive to prepare ourselves now for our life as a spirit and recognize the power of thought and train our minds to remain positive and caring. When problems arise, we should trust in our life blueprint and know that any trial ahead is one that we requested. Staying calm and focused during any difficult episode is half the battle.
